Album Info: | Between Bakersfield and Mojave, Tehachapi Pass is the main artery for freight rail traffic entering southern California from points north. Union Pacific's former SP mainline traverses the pass from Kern Junction in Bakersfield to the junction in Mojave, where UP's Colton Cutoff splits from the BNSF Mojave Sub. BNSF has trackage rights between Kern Junction and Mojave, with their mainline running east to Barstow before swinging south towards Cajon Pass. Pictures in this album include trains of both railroads over the pass, UP trains from Mojave to Palmdale, and BNSF trains from Mojave to Barstow. |
